Dear white friends: racism is slightly more complex than what you learned about in primary school — Reclaiming My Time

After several years of banging my head against the wall upon seeing the old American proverbs of “it (racism) goes both ways” and “slavery ended 300 years ago” in social media comment sections, I think it’s time we address an uncomfortable truth: the watered down, Cliff Notes unit on racial inequality you were taught in elementary school was a lie.

Career and Life Lessons From the Quiet Painter — Cory Galbraith

Jackie Kennedy loved his paintings and to this day, a few of them hang in the Oval Office. But when asked how he was able to paint sunlight so realistically, world-famous painter Edward Hopper casually replied, “The whole answer is there on the canvas.” Hopper may have been a man of few words. But he […]

Spam Emails 🚨

Buying and selling things online can be one of the best decisions you can ever take for yourself. On the internet, stuff is much cheaper to purchase and easier to sell also. This is so because on the internet there are various websites that could make your life much easier if you want to get rid of your products or you need new ones at affordable costs. Websites like OLX are easy to use

However the internet is full of scammers and so are these websites. The other day i tried to sell my Laptop via OLX,  posted a picture and specs. That joy i had when i started receiving feedback from interested parties, godly. One weird thing i noticed was that almost all the people were either far away from my location or had more or less the same response text towards the Ad i posted on OLX.

Here’s one of the texts i received.

And as expected of a desperate person i responded via email. They then confirmed that they’re interested in buying the laptop and that they’re willing to pay even the shipment costs. Another thing common about these people is that they insist that you post the product via Post Net Aramex. This is a home delivery service and unlike in post office where you provide your ID when you collect the product, here it can be received by anyone they find at that particular address that the product is sent to, provided they agree to sign a document confirming they received the package.

As we were talking about the way of payment, how am i going to get my money and how are they going to secure that they do receive the package. They suggested PayPal  (which is the best way by the way), and in no time i receivedan email confirming that my PayPal account had been topped up, however the amount may not appear on my PayPal account until i had send the package and shipment Number to the buyer.

I kept on looking at the email confirming that i had received a certain amount on my PayPal and i was so convinced there was no spam, until i had a  small chat with a bank teller. I was just about to withdraw money so that i can send this package via Aramex “as requested”. I still remember the bank teller’s words, “be careful these people are smart, imagine sending that package and still not receive your money on PayPal. How sure are  you that the email is legit”

This got me thinkingand i ended up not sending my laptop. I did some research and it turned out the email wasn’t even from PayPal. It was written spam all over it. How could i have not seen this. Well it seemed so legit abd i was so desperate in selling my laptop as reasonable price and fast. I tried to confront them on email but then that was like talking to a wall.

Online scams are real people need to stay cautious at all times. The best way to buy something on OLX is to ensure that seller/buyer is reachable so that you can just drive ti their location or request ti meet in public where everyone can see you (in case they try to act on you). Also listen to your intuition when you feel there’s something fishy with that kind of person before you associate yourself with them. Stay cautious at all times when buying or selling goods online.

Kasi Weekend Chronicles

For thosewho don’t know the word “Kasi” is relative. My Kasi can be different from your Kasi. Someone from the suburbs may call that Kasi even someone from the Township or village even. The word is mainly used in the township cos that where most Blacks resides. People from the suburbs adopt White standards to a point they wouldn’t call their hood Kasi. Basically the word means my hood/ my neighbourhood.

Last weekend i started a tag on Twitter. #KasiWeekendChronicles was a tag collectively for all evident occurrences in Kasi every weekend.  There are things that uniquely occur ko Kasi only. Tweeps shared their experiences which ofcos some i myself also relate to. It’s actually quite fun having to see  what people go through on weekends.

Here are some some of the tweets from the tag;
